To truly know if a trading strategy works you need to test it with real money. Algo\u00c9TS plans on one day implementing its trading algorithms on the real life stock markets. However, this vision will take several years of development.<\/p>

We need to code algorithms that have been profitable in recent years. We believe that the past is the best way to predict the future. History tends to repeat itself. When we will have tested good strategies, we plan on deploying them in real time with simulated money (paper trading). If the algorithm is still genuinely profitable (i.e. with a consistent above average market return), we will test it on the actual stock markets.<\/p>

When I started at \u00c9TS, I wanted to join a club, but none of them interested me. They all worked on cars, constructions or video games. I was interested in code, data science, and finance. I did my first internship at Morgan Stanley, a large investment bank, and learned about algorithmic trading. I was disappointed that I didn’t have the chance to work on it, but I thought it would make a good club.<\/p>

I told Reda, a colleague and a friend, and then Sam Lafrance-Jones, another friend of mine, and they wanted to leave him with me. We approached the school and they were open to the idea, but skeptical because they had never heard of the idea before. At the beginning, we would meet every week and compare the algorithms that we had developed and tested during the week. After a few months, the school gave us permission to recruit members. A single post on the college\u2019s social media brought us over 20 interested students. Since that time, we have only continued to grow.<\/p>

We had this success in our opening because \u00c9TS students are passionate about data science, finance and computer development. A combination that cannot be found elsewhere. I hope you too can help us with the continued success of the club.<\/p>

The Rotman International Trading Competition (RITC) is an annual event that brings together teams from universities around the world to participate in a unique three-day simulated market challenge. The 2021 competition marks the 18th anniversary of this commercial competition, currently the largest in the world.
